African Children’s Choir receives warm welcome at Reinbeck UMC

REINBECK – Last Wednesday, community members crowded into the Reinbeck United Methodist Church to see a performance by the African Children’s Choir – a group of 19 young children traveling and fundraising around the Midwest this summer to help provide food, education and care for themselves and other children back home in Africa.
In Reinbeck, the choir was met by a full house, who came to support the children and enjoy their performance of contemporary worship songs, gospel music and traditional African songs, dancing and drum playing.
During the performance, community members had the chance to donate to the choir’s parent organization – Music For Life – or to individually sponsor a child’s education at the end of the concert.
Keira Carnie, a volunteer from England who acts as the choir’s tour leader, said the group was overwhelmed by the support they have received from the area.
“We’ve had so many of our kids being sponsored from this area, and we’ve been quite overwhelmed with the number of people who come up afterwards and want to sponsor an individual child’s education,” she said. “Through performing these concerts and fundraising all around the country, these students are able to pay for their education from primary school through the end of university.”
