AGWSR football staves off Raiders

ACKLEY – The AGWSR football team got the victory last Friday in a 27-22 triumph over Dunkerton in Ackley.

But Cougars head coach James Koop hopes to see more from his team after what he felt was a step back from AGWSR's season-opening victory over Colo-Nesco.

"Dunkerton had our intensity from last week and we looked like two different teams on the field," Koop said. "I will say our kids did pick it up a little in the second half."

A pair of rushing scores from Aaron Roelfs and Liam Stubbe in the second half broke a 14-14 tie at halftime, and though Dunkerton returned the ensuing kickoff after Stubbe's touchdown run and pulled within five points, the Cougars were able to hold on to move to 2-0 overall on the season.

AGWSR opens district play in Ackley against Riceville on Friday.
