DES MOINES – Powered through strong individual performances by Aubrie Fisher and Bethany Lippert, the AGWSR girls’ track and field team scored 21.5 points to finish ninth in Class 1A at last week’s state track and field meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Fisher, a sophomore, finished second in the 1,500 in 4:55.77, fourth in the 3,000 in 10:54.02 and 10th in the 800 in 2:26.38. Lippert, a senior, squeaked out an eighth-place finish in the 1,500 as well in 4:59.93 to go with a four-way tie for third place in the high jump after clearing 5 feet and a 11th-place finish in the 3,000 in 11:18.40.
“It would have been nice to have my best jump at state,” Lippert said of her performance in the high jump. “It didn’t happen, but I was happy with five feet.”
The girls then joined forces with Haley Bakker and Maddie Brandt to take sixth in the 4x800 relay in 10:09.17.
Grundy Center took 11th in the team standings with 19 points, all generated by the Spartans’ quartet of junior Landry Luhring, sophomores Brooke Flater and Hailey Wallis; and freshman Kyah Luhring.
