WAVERLY – Last Tuesday’s North Iowa Cedar League Indoor Meet was the last stop before outdoor track season for NICL teams.
If the event is any indication of translating to outdoor success, it’ll be a strong season for Register-area athletes.
Several area competitors left Wartburg College in Waverly with indoor titles, led by AGWSR and Dike-New Hartford with five titles each.
AGWSR’s Bethany Lippert was the top girls' individual finisher with titles in the 3,000-meter run in 11 minutes, 30.19 seconds and the high jump with a top height of 5-feet. Aubrie Fisher added an 800-meter title for the Cougars in 2:30.19.
Dike-New Hartford’s Alayna Kollasch held off Aplington-Parkersburg’s Sophia Jungling in the home stretch for a 1,500-meter title in 5:13.94. Sydney Petersen, a returning state qualifier in the shot put from last season, won the event last Tuesday with a top put of 33 feet, 9 inches.
The Wolverines’ relay team of Baylee Petersen, Courtney Bolhuis, Allie Aalderks and Alayna Kollasch won in 10:28.48.
Grundy Center sophomore Hailey Wallis won the 55-meter dash in 7.63 for the Spartans’ lone title last Tuesday.
For the boys, Dike-New Hartford’s Connor Blough won in the 55 and 200-meter dashes at last Tuesday’s North Iowa Cedar League Indoor Meet at Wartburg College.
Blough finished in 6.75 in the 55 final and won the 200 in 23.18 seconds.
AGWSR’s Dalton June won the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 10 inches and Caleb Meinders set a new personal best in the shot put with a distance of 53 feet, 5.5 inches.
BCLUW rounded out the indoor titles won by area athletes with Jack Garber’s win in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.97 seconds.
