At its regular meeting on Monday evening, the BCLUW Board of Education voted unanimously to reauthorize the district’s sharing agreements with South Hardin for wrestling and Marshalltown High School for swimming.

For wrestling, the two schools will continue the split season format: half of home meets will be held in Conrad, and half will be held in Eldora. With the completion of the new wrestling room at BCLUW, practices will also be evenly split between the two locations. For swimming, BCLUW students who wish to participate will continue to travel to Marshalltown for all practices and home meets.

In personnel news, the board accepted the retirement/resignations of four longtime employees: elementary teachers Mardon Cole and Mary Eckerman, high school secretary Kendra Daniels and school nurse Gloria Dielschneider. The four of them have served the BCLUW district for a combined total of almost 100 years, and Eckerman is currently the longest tenured teacher at BCL-BCLUW with 39 years of service.

High school principal Kristyn Kell spoke to the board about a program that would allow seniors who have at least a 2.5 GPA, meet attendance requirements and aren’t failing a class to be eligible for early release during either first or eighth period beginning next year. After some discussion about the parameters, a motion to approve the proposal passed by a unanimous vote.
