Black Dirt Days, Wellsburg Daze set for this weekend

Festivalgoers in Grundy County are in luck this weekend as two of the most popular events around will kick off, with Black Dirt Days in Conrad beginning Friday and Wellsburg Daze starting on Saturday morning.
 
 The fun will start Friday morning in Conrad with the annual Hen and Chicks quilt show all day before the introduction of Little Mr. and Miss Black Dirt Days, Carter McCready and Elle Schipper, at 5:00 p.m. on the main stage for the first time ever. From there, a fun-filled weekend with activities for all ages will ensue, including kids activities such as inflatables, games and the tractor pull Friday. A fireworks show will be held Friday night, and the recently completed mural at the intersection of Center and Main Streets will be dedicated at 7:45 p.m. there will be live musical entertainment both Friday and Saturday nights, with the dueling pianos of Andy and Mike the first night from 8:00 p.m. to midnight and the Back Porch Pickers opening on Saturday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. before the Mighty Wheelhouse from Madison, Wisconsin, performs from 9:00 p.m. to midnight.
           
“The Black Dirt Days Committee is extremely pleased with the amount of financial support that we have received for this year’s event.  Knowing that people support this family, friendly weekend is really exciting,” Black Dirt Days committee leader Ann Rogers said. “I am looking forward to seeing many friends, community members and new faces in Conrad on Friday and Saturday.  I would encourage anyone that wants to laugh, be entertained and likes great food to come to Conrad on the 10th and 11th.”
