CONRAD – The rematch was no match.

One year after a five-set, drag-out battle to the final point, the BCLUW volleyball team was in control from start to finish and swept Belle Plaine during a Class 2A Region 4 quarterfinal bout Monday.

The Comets showed no effects from a 12-day layoff, beating Belle Plaine 25-12, 25-16, 25-14.

BCLUW will play Woodward-Granger on Thursday night in Jewell in the semifinals.

“The Comets were good tonight. That was fun,” proclaimed BCLUW head coach Kristen Garber. “I told the girls to expect a five-game match, but we’ll take it in three.

“We really had a great week of practice. We were focused - that is not always the case with this team, but we were pumped to play tonight. I was nervous what would happen, but all is good.”

BCLUW rallied to win in a marathon five-sets at Belle Plaine in a regional quarterfinal a year ago, winning the fourth game 32-30 and the fifth 15-9.
