Community prepares for annual Dike Watermelon Days celebration

DIKE - As the summer winds down, citizens of Dike are busy gearing up for their biggest celebration of the season: the annual Dike Watermelon Days.
This two day festival will be held next weekend on Friday, August 10th and Saturday, August 11th, and will offer family friendly fun for kids and adults of all ages.
Festivities kick off on Friday with a brick oven pizza meal - a fundraiser for the Dike Fire Department - at State Bank from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., before water ball fights commence at 6 p.m. There will be a family movie night on the high school lawn starting at 9 p.m., where families can enjoy a free showing of “The Lego Batman” movie. Afterwards, the community is invited to wrap up the night with live music at Slice and karaoke at Lynch’s Pub from 8 p.m. until midnight.
Saturday brings even more excitement, with a softball tournament at the Sports Complex, the Phil Kruger Memorial 5K fundraiser, a horseshoe tournament, bags tournament, kiddie tractor pull, fish and duck pond, inflatable games, belt sander races, face painting and a market on Main Street filled with local vendors. 
Don’t forget to attend the crowning of the Little Mr. and Miss at 11:30 a.m. on the Library Square or the annual Watermelon Days parade at 3 p.m. Be sure to grab your free watermelon on E. State Street off Main Street beginning at 4 p.m.
To end the night, there will be live music on West State Street from 4 to 6 p.m., a free family pool party at the public pool from 6 to 8 p.m., more live music in front of Lynch’s Pub from 8 p.m. to midnight, and a fireworks show after dark at Fox Ridge Golf Course.
