Cross country roundup: D-NH leads locals at Eldora

ELDORA – The Dike-New Hartford girls and boys cross country teams had the best finishes in the team standings of the numerous local teams competing at the Pine Lake Cross Country Invite at Pine Lake Golf Course in Eldora on Thursday evening.
 
The Wolverine girls were third in the final team standings, scoring 70 points to finish behind Jesup (50) and Hudson (58). Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck placed fifth with 129 points and BCLUW was eighth with 234 points.
 
The D-NH boys finished second in the team standings with 76 points, trailing team champion South Hardin with a 59 score. GC/G-R's boys finished third with 90 points, followed by BCLUW with 112 points.
 
Dike-New Hartford freshman Taylor Kvale finished second in the girls race in a time of 21 minutes, 1 second. Aplington-Parkersburg's Sophia Jungling won the girls race in 20:39.
 
Alexis Jensen scored 10th-place points for the Wolverines with a time of 23:29. Rachel Wardell was 15th in 23:59, followed by Kaity Houts one second later in 16th. Zoie Callan rounded out D-NH's five scorers with a 27th place finish in 24:58.
 
GC/G-R freshman Taylor Stahl scored a top-ten finish in sixth place with a final time of 22:38. Lily Ehlers ran 24:14 in 17th place, Cora Saak was 25th in 24:30, Shelby Rivera 33rd in 25:26 and Sarah Lindeman 48th in 26:45.
 
The Comets were led by Katie Thompson's 24th-place run in 24:29. Madison Engle contributed a 29th-place finish in 25:19.
 
Seth Wibben led the Wolverines in the boys race, placing 7th in 18:59. Joining Wibben in the top 10 was Sawyer Loger, running 10th in 19:20. Conlee Lyons was 12th in 19:28, followed by Ian Steffen in 23rd in 20:35 and Giacomo Gilardo's 24th-place time of 20:39.
 
Derek Ciddio placed fourth to lead GC/G-R in a time of 18:40. Paul Brockett ran 19:52 for 14th place and Kenny Day finished 16th in 19:55.
 
BCLUW's Caleb Silver was the fastest local individual runner of the day, finishing third in 18:39 to lead the Comets. Neifer Ralston placed 13th in 19:46, Henry Kaisand was 15th in 19:53 and Treye Teske ran 20:46 to take 26th place.
 
Fisher, Meyer pace Cadet girls
 
MASON CITY – Two top-ten finishes for the Iowa Falls-Alden/AGWSR girls cross country team helped the Cadets to a fifth-place finish in the team standings as the girls and boys Cadets cross country teams competed in the rescheduled Mason City Newman Invite on the West Campus of Mercy Health Center in Mason City.
 
The Cadets scored 142 points, five points shy of Mason City Newman in fourth place. Crestwood won the girls team title with 56 points.
 
Aubrie Fisher led the Cadets with a third-place overall finish in 19:03, followed by teammate Ellie Meyer in fourth with a time of 19:22. Katie Meyer scored 31st-place points in 22:31, Ali Gerbracht finished in 23:29 for 47th and Anika Jelmeland rounded out the Cadets' scoring in 57th in 23:57.
 
Humboldt's Bryce Gidel was the individual winner of the girls' race in a time of 18:05.
 
The IF-A/AGWSR boys finished 11th in the team standings with 284 team points.
 
Seth Mazoway led the Cadet boys, completing the course in 17:52 for 21st place. Andrew Nicholson placed 27th in 18:10.
