A Cup of Kindness: Local coffee shop helps people pay it forward

GRUNDY CENTER - A free cup of coffee may not seem like a big deal to some people, but when given as a random act of kindness, it can make someone’s day.

In an effort to help foster these random acts of kindness, the local coffee shop in town - The Natural Grind - has set up their own system of paying it forward. When visitors walk into the coffee shop, they’re greeted by a sign filled with names, that says “buy a drink for a friend.” If someone’s name is on the board, that means they’ve been bought a free drink by a friend.

Natural Grind owner Natalie Kracht says she was inspired by different businesses who had done similar things to “pay it forward.”

“”I thought how cool would it be to do this [at Natural Grind],” Kracht said. “We already had a lot of people who would grab a coffee and leave five dollars for the next person’s drink, so this was just taking it one step further.”

So far, Kracht and her employees have served up around 200 free drinks to people, thanks to the kindness of those in the community.
