D-NH volleyball returns to 2A title hunt

DIKE – Morgan Weber doesn't look back in anger on how her freshman volleyball season ended.

The Dike-New Hartford outside hitter suffered a stress fracture in her foot just before the Wolverines began a postseason run that resulted in D-NH's return to the state tournament.

But she was along for the ride as D-NH vanquished Union in four sets for a Class 3A title.

"It stunk, but at the same time it was still exciting to go down there with my team and have some fun," Weber said.

Not only is Weber back and healthy for this postseason, but she was a major contributor on the road back to the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, where D-NH opens its 11th-consecutive appearance at the state tournament against Wapsie Valley at 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.

Weber accounted for 11 kills in a sweep of Denver to start regional play, then 12 kills against East Buchanan and 13 kills in the regional final with Bellevue.

She averages 3.56 kills per set, a hair behind D-NH senior Baylee Petersen's team-leading 3.83 kill-per-set average.

"I'm feeling pretty good this year," Weber said. "I'm practicing every day, getting better – trying to at least, working on serve receive a lot, that's what I struggle with."

D-NH head coach Diane Harms is excited to get Weber out on the floor in Cedar Rapids.

"Having her healthy adds an extra dimension to our offense," Harms said. "She's played all last year and all this year, but never at state, so there's a bit more excitement there."
