Felix Grundy Grand Marshals have ties to festival’s past

GRUNDY CENTER - Many people in the community know this year’s Felix Grundy Festival Grand Marshals, Don and Cheryl Osterhaus, for their work in education and their support and participation within the community. But not everyone knows that the couple has an interesting tie to the festival’s past…

You may recognize the couple as Mr. and Mrs. Felix Grundy - whom they portrayed in character during two different Felix Grundy Festivals back in 1990 and 1992.

The Osterhaus’ are back now, without the 1800’s-era garb, to lead the festivities as this year’s grand marshals.

“We’re very excited, and surprised, to be named grand marshals,” Cheryl said. “Every year we’ve gone to the festival; we love to see the community come together, and it’s always fun to see familiar faces back in town.”

Don and Cheryl reminisced about the Felix Grundy Festivals of 1990 and 1992, when they were asked by the committee to dress up in costumes to portray the Tennessee congressman Felix Grundy and his wife Ann.

“We had whole pages of scripts memorized so we could get the characters right, and answer people’s questions, but I don’t know that a lot of people really came up and talked to us,” Cheryl laughed.

This year, the couple says they have so much to look forward to during the Felix Grundy Festival.
