Fired-up Comets sweep Cougars

CONRAD – Kristen Garber prefers a more-restrained approach on the sideline.

But the BCLUW volleyball head coach didn't like what she saw early in the first set against AGWSR on Thursday and called an early timeout.

"I don't come down hard on the girls too often," Garber said. "But I felt like we were playing with no effort. We weren't being aggressive. It's one of the few times that I let them have it."

The Comets got the message.

A 15-0 run to end the first set put BCLUW back on course for a straight-set sweep of the Cougars, 25-12, 25-18, 25-16.

BCLUW is 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the NICL West. AGWSR fell to 5-14 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Easton Swanson had 11 kills and 11 digs, with Madison Ubben adding eight kills and five blocks and Jade Hammers contributing seven kills. Parker Scurr was 21-of-21 with four ace serves, serving from the 11th point on in BCLUW's landslide first-set comeback.

Hammers said the key was the girls feeding off Garber's energy during the timeout.

"That fired us up to get out there and play how we know how to play," Hammers said. "I just tried to be aggressive as I can, I don't want to look back thinking I should've hit the ball harder, I want to get kills and get going for my team."
