Garage fire in Stout is a total loss

Over a dozen volunteer firefighters from Stout and Dike braved the bitter cold on Monday night to battle a garage fire in Stout.

According to Stout Fire Chief Jim Folkerts, the fire was reported around 9 p.m. on Monday night, after the resident noticed their garage was in flames. Folkerts says by the time firefighters got to the scene, the garage was almost fully engulfed.

Firefighters were on scene battling the blaze for around three hours, but the garage and its contents - which include at least one vehicle - were a total loss.

“We got pretty lucky with the weather and the wind, though, that the fire didn’t spread to the house,” Folkerts said. “The garage was close enough to the house that it could have spread but it didn’t so we’re thankful for that.”
