GC council approves raise for fire chief
The Grundy Center City Council’s last meeting of the 2017 calendar year was a short one, but one highlight was that the council approved a pay raise for Grundy Center Fire Chief Nathan Kappel.
“The city hasn’t increased [the fire chief position’s] pay since 1990,” said outgoing Mayor Brian Buhrow. “Nathan’s doing a heck of a job, and he’s got everything in line.”
Buhrow said that the last time the position’s pay was increased in 1990, it was a $600 increase, taking the pay from $1,200 to $1,800 a year.
