There is a bright, new future in store for the vacant former First Baptist Church property, located at 801 7th Street.

At Monday night’s meeting, the Grundy Center City Council voted to award a bid for purchase of the property to Lance Moeller, of Moeller Concrete and Landscaping, who plans to build a single story duplex on the property. The council had a total of two bids on the property; one from Moeller for $12,000, and one for $10,000 from Scotty Bienfang with certain contingencies, including tax abatement for 10 years and a possible Challenge Grant application.

Council member Janetta Miller motioned to accept the bid from Moeller, and council member Butch Kuester seconded.

“I would motion to grant the bid to Lance Moeller on the premise that he’s going to build, [with no contingencies],” she said. “The whole point is to get something back on tax the bracket as soon as possible, because that property has been out a long time.”
