GC tennis boys score second straight victory

WEBSTER CITY — The Grundy Center boys won five of the six singles matches on their way to a second straight victory, 7-2 over Webster City last Thursday.
The Spartans dropped the girls’ half of the girl-boy doubleheader, 7-2.
“Both teams met or exceeded my expectations both in performance and behavior,” Coach John Baade said. “(The girls’) outcome could have just as easily been a win at 5-4. We need to hang in there and make it happen.”
The boys (2-1) matched last year’s victory total by winning the close matches. Singles wins by Andrew Day, Jarrett Stoner and Jared Clapp were by two games or fewer, as was Clapp and Stoner’s doubles victory. Freshman Drew Sharp picked up an 8-3 win at No. 1 singles while senior Ethan Hogle was an 8-4 winner at No. 2. The duo teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
