GCHS will host Regional Academic Decathlon: AcDec organizers looking for volunteers

GRUNDY CENTER – For the third year in a row, Grundy Center High School has been chosen as the location for the Northeast Iowa Regional Academic Decathlon, where students from 15 different school districts around the area will come to compete in a tournament of wits.

In order to make the event a success, though, the school is asking for community volunteers to help with everything from interviewing decathletes to proctoring tests.

The event will take place at the high school gymnasium on Wednesday, January 24th, with shifts from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Volunteers can work for the whole day, take a morning shift (7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.), or take an evening shift (1:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.).

Positions needed include: Test proctors: 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m; Test Runner: 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m; Packet Assembler: 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m; Packet Assembler: 1:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.; Interview Escort: 1:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m; Speech Escort: 1:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m; Interview Runner: 1:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m; Speech Runner: 1:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m; Interview Judges: 1:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m; Speech Judges: 1:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m; Speech Timers: 1:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m; Super Quiz Set Up: 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.; and Super Quiz Proctors: 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Volunteers are also needed the evening before the event – Tuesday, January 24th – for test set-up in the gym from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
