REINBECK – Taylor Gienger scored 27 points and the Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls basketball team defeated Waterloo Christian, 57-30, in a Class 1A regional first-round game at G-R High School in Reinbeck on Friday night.

The Rebels (9-11) have won six of their last eight games. G-R will travel to ninth-ranked Janesville for a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. start time.

G-R outscored the Regents 27-8 in the first quarter, with Gienger, a senior, putting in 15 points in the first eight minutes. She finished with 23 first-half points. Reagan Skovgard and Saari Kuehl contributed 10 points each.

"I saw intensity through the whole game," Gienger said. "Everyone was wanting to play and wanting to get after the ball."

Janesville defeated Gladbrook-Reinbeck 69-51 on Dec. 20.

"We have to play all four quarters," G-R senior Rachel Cooley said. "We almost outscored them in the second half last time, which was a confidence boost for us going into this postseason. We know we can do it, we just have to play all four quarters."
