The Grundy Center boys' golf team qualified for this weekend's Class 1A state tournament in Marshalltown based on their performance at Monday's weather-delayed district golf meet in Nashua.
The tournament was moved to Monday, and from Mason City to Nashua, after last Wednesday's storm damage affected Mason City's golf course.
The Spartans shot a 335 team score, two strokes behind Algona Garrigan in the team standings in Nashua. Jesper Holke-Farnam led the Spartans with a 75 and Jake Bangasser contributed a 78. Matthew Sternhagen contributed an 89 and Braidan Buhrow rounded out Grundy Center's top four with a 93.
Grundy Center finished eighth as a team last season in the Class 2A tournament, but has moved back down to Class 1A this season after ending a sharing agreement with Gladbrook-Reinbeck.
AGWSR was fourth in the team standings, with Keon Huffman leading the Cougars with an 81. G-R finished seventh as a team, led by Joe Smoldt shooting an 81.

On Friday, Dike-New Hartford's Royce Weber finished in a four-way tie for third at a district golf meet at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike to advance to the 2A state golf meet at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
D-NH was third as a team in the standings, finishing three strokes behind second-place New Hampton for the final team-qualifying spot. Weber will return to the state tournament after finishing in a tie for 19th with a two-day total of 156 as a junior at last year's state meet.
