Halloween on the cheap: Kling Library hosting free costume swap

GRUNDY CENTER - Nothing is scarier than spending money on a Halloween costume that will only be worn once. That’s why the Kling Memorial Library in Grundy Center is inviting patrons to go green this Halloween by participating in the library’s first ever Costume Swap.
From now until September 29th, community members are invited to bring their clean, gently used Halloween costumes of all sizes to the library. Costume donors will receive a voucher for the swap, which will entitle them to one “new to you” costume of their choice.
Collection will take place during regular library hours until Saturday, September 29th. On October 4th, anyone who donated a costume will gain early bird access to the costume closet, where they can choose a new costume with their voucher, or vouchers. The closet will then be open to the public on October 5th and 6th, where anyone in the community can come pick out a costume absolutely free.
Kling Library Director Lindsey Engelkes says the costume swap is a great community event that the library staff hopes will save parents some time and money picking out a costume, while still letting the youngsters have fun going through the different costumes.
“It’s a great time for parents to go through their closets or storage tubs and get rid of the old costumes that don’t fit anymore, and donate them to a fun, community cause,” she said. “The costumes are free to anyone, and it’s a great way to take some of the expense out Halloween shopping without having to hunt too hard for a fun costume.”
Engelkes says the library is always thinking of fun ways to give back to the community, and she hopes local families will participate in the event.
“It’s a fun, Halloween event and a way for us to give back to the community,” she said.
