Area fire departments had a busy New Year’s Day, as they responded to a house fire that badly damaged a home in Reinbeck.

Reinbeck Fire Chief Chris Heasley says the fire - which happened at 111 Clark St. in Reinbeck - was reported just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1.

Volunteer members of the Reinbeck and Grundy Center Fire Departments responded to the scene.

According to Heasley, the fire damaged the kitchen and back porch, causing heavy flame and smoke damage. Aside from the kitchen and porch, the rest of the house sustained smoke and water damage.
