CHARLES CITY – A body was discovered in rural Floyd County on Friday, according to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
The DCI states that the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a body that had been discovered near 290th Street and Shadow Avenue in rural Floyd County, around 10 miles south of Charles City.
Though there is no positive identification on the body, this is an area where law enforcement had previously requested the public’s assistance regarding a missing person from Grundy County.
28-year-old Michael Bruce Johns was last seen in an area between Greene and Charles City on the morning of October 25. He was reported missing the next day, and has not been seen or heard from since.
Just days ago, the DCI reported that foul play was suspected in Johns’ disappearance, and asked for the public’s assistance locating Johns with shotgun hunting season coming up.
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Dept., Iowa DCI, and Floyd County Sheriff’s Dept. are continuing to investigate.
Grundy County Sheriff Rick Penning says there isn’t much information available at this time, as the investigation is still open, but law enforcement officials are asking anyone with information about activity in the area of 290th Street and Shadow Avenue around October 25th, 2017, to call the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office at 641-228-1821.

Update: As of Saturday night, the DCI positively identified the body as Johns and indicated that his death was a homicide, though it was not yet clear how he was killed.
