Kwik Star speculation appears to be unfounded

A since-deleted Facebook post set the rumor mill in motion on an apparent new Kwik Star gas station in Grundy Center, but according to local economic development officials, there’s no information to substantiate the claims.

“In my opinion, it’s much ado about nothing,” said Grundy County Supervisor and Grundy Center Economic Development Board Member Barb Smith, a part owner of The Mill along Highway 20.

Butler/Grundy Development Alliance Director Jeff Kolb and Grundy Center city leaders say they have not received any sort of application or proposal related to a new convenience store, and at press time, representatives from Kwik Trip Inc. had not responded to a request for clarification on the matter.

The LaCrosse, Wisconsin-based chain is one of the largest in the Midwest, with over 500 locations mostly situated in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Locally, Kwik Star stores are housed in Dike, Parkersburg, Marshalltown and throughout the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area.

Currently, Grundy Center is home to two Casey’s stores, and The Mill, located seven miles north of town at the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 20, remains one of the most popular roadside stops in the state.

UPDATE: In an e-mail on Wednesday morning, Wade Dumond of Kwik Trip Inc.'s real estate department confirmed that Grundy Center is not being considered for a new Kwik Star store.
