Libraries that lead: Kling celebrates National Library Week

Libraries are more than just a place to simply check out a book, says Kling Memorial Library Director Lindsey Engelkes.
           
In honor of National Library Week this week, Kling Memorial Library joins a nationwide celebration of the many ways libraries act as a driving force in their communities; whether it’s through inspirational and informative programming, education for all ages, indispensible services to the community, outreach, and leadership in technology through the digital age.
           
“This year’s theme for National Library Week is ‘Libraries Lead,’ and that means focusing on different ways libraries can lead in the community,” Engelkes said. “In a broad sense, we hope to lead people in discovering something they really enjoy, a passion of theirs, and helping them to learn more about it in any way we can. We want the library to be a resource that inspires people, and helps them grow and continue to learn, no matter how young or old.”
           
Engelkes says more and more, libraries have transformed from a place to simply check out books, into a community resource and tool for growth that’s available to anyone and everyone.
           
“It’s way beyond just books,” she said. “A lot of people don’t realize the services and programs we offer. Libraries have become more of a community center and a place to start discussions and bring topics of value to people. They provide an opportunity for people to be engaged and inspired.”
