Missed chances leave AGWSR softball short of state

ACKLEY – A heartbreaking 3-2 loss was suffered by the AGWSR softball team, falling in the Class 1A Region 6 final to Belle Plaine here Monday.
The Cougars, eighth-ranked and the early favorite in Region 6 when post-season pairings were released, struggled swinging the stick. AGWSR booked just three base hits and stranded nine base runners, including seven in scoring position.
AGWSR co-head coach Scott O’Brien stated the team didn’t make the little adjustments needed during the game to be successful.
“We didn’t adjust at the plate and in the field. We figured out early she was going to jam us and we never adjusted to that.
“This was a great opportunity and we didn’t execute. I really feel for the kids,” added O’Brien.
