New public art installed in downtown GC

As the public art movement continues to gain traction here in town, a new art installment by local artist Grant McMartin was put up in downtown Grundy Center on Monday morning.

Located on the east side of the Pizza Hut building, McMartin’s painting depicts a barn on an open field, signifying the agricultural identity of the community and county.

McMartin - who grew up just outside of Grundy Center and graduated from Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock High School - now lives and works in Chicago, but said that he was happy to create a piece of art for his home community, and honored to be a part of the movement to bring more public art to the small town where he spent so much of his time growing up.

McMartin said he chose to paint an image of a barn for the piece of work because of its connection to Grundy County.
