The newest senior living development in Grundy Center – Creekside Cottages, located on the east edge of town – is now open, with residents expected to move in by the middle of next month.

The Cottages, constructed by Western Home Communities in partnership with the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, will provide a new home for more than 50 residents currently living in the hospital’s long term care unit.

On Friday, an open house and ribbon cutting was held at the new development.

Kim Schilling, GCMH Long Term Care Administrator, says residents are eager to move into their new home.

“The residents came and checked it out already, and you can tell they’re excited to move in; they’re already looking at ways to make it their own,” she said. “We’re so excited for residents to start their journey in their new home.”

The new facility consists of three different craftsman-style cottages; two cottages that will each house 20 residents, and one memory-care focused cottage that will house 16 residents.
