A place to grow: Reinbeck takes on community betterment projects

REINBECK - Though it may be small, the city of Reinbeck is working in full force on community betterment projects - including a housing rehab program, revamping the parks, pools, trails and other amenities and building a strong business base.

“We’re not sitting idle,” says Reinbeck City Clerk Julie Wilkerson. “We have a lot of different organizations around town working on projects, and working to promote Reinbeck as not only a place to live and do business, but a place to shop, play and have fun.”

For some time now, the city has been working to finish the walking trail and they’ve already installed work out stations along the trail. They’ve also re-done the tennis courts and added pickle-ball courts, and done betterment projects at the cemetery. Right now, the park board is raising money to build a new bath house at the pool, and the economic development committee is working on re-branding the city with a new logo and website.

One of the more extensive projects the city is undertaking is their Housing Repair Program that uses TIF (Tax Increment Financing) money to repair and rehab housing for low to moderate income families in Reinbeck.

Since it first started almost five years ago, Wilkerson says the Housing Repair Program has really started to take off.
