Preliminary Ivester Wind Farm schedule unveiled

A definitive timeline for the construction of the much publicized and highly controversial 35-turbine Ivester Wind Farm in the rural area of western Grundy County was announced during Monday morning’s regular board of supervisors meeting.
           
According to county engineer Gary Mauer, work at the lay down yard—located about a half mile south of the Ivester Church on property owned by the Hogle family—is set to begin on July 23, and road construction for turbine access is set for August 6. On August 20, foundations will be laid, and the turbine blades are expected for delivery on September 24.
           
Actual erection of the turbines should commence by October 1, and the mechanical work is slated for completion by November 17. Supervisor Chuck Bakker, a frequent critic of the project and developer EDF Renewable Energy, questioned the plan.
           
“It seems late in the year for me for all of that,” he said.
