Rain cuts Relay For Life short, doesn’t put a damper on fundraising

GRUNDY CENTER – Despite the heat of around 90 degrees, this year’s Relay For Life of Grundy County still drew between 200 to 300 people throughout the course of the evening – until the rain came and cut the Relay short, that is.
Becki Jo Shuey, committee lead, said she would like to give a big ‘thank you’ to everyone involved.
At the time of the Relay, they had raised around $30,000, but Shuey added that even this weekend she had more donations coming in and she expects that the committee will meet their fundraising goal of $40,000 this year – especially since donations will still be accepted until August 31.
Due to the fact that donations are still being submitted, there is currently no word on which teams earned a spot in the “Top Five Earners” listing for this year’s Relay.
Shuey said that despite the bad weather, this year’s event was a success, and she would like to thank everyone involved for making this year’s Relay For Life possible.
