Rebels pound Plainsmen for Olson's 100th win

INDEPENDENCE – Kyle Koppen and the Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team had to move forward.

The Rebels couldn't dwell on the previous Saturday's loss to Hudson in a mud pit in Gladbrook.

In fact, G-R needed to maintain their poise more than ever as they had to move their final regular-season home game to Independence, due to the field conditions caused by the Saturday slopfest against the Pirates.

Fortunately for Koppen and the Rebels, G-R got back in the hunt for a spot in the postseason after hammering Belle Plaine 43-0. The victory was career win No. 100 for Gladbrook-Reinbeck head coach John Olson.

"It feels good to get back into the groove of it after a tough loss last week," Koppen said, "and get everyone going at 100 percent again."

Koppen led the team with nine total tackles, with Seth Gretillat adding six total stops.

Offensively, G-R quarterback Hunter Lott was 11 of 19 for 187 yards and three touchdowns and added a second-half rushing touchdown. Walker Thede had five catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns, with Matt Johannnsen adding the other receiving touchdown. Josh Peterson and Gage Murty also scored touchdowns on the ground for the Rebels.
