The season continued for the Gladbrook-Reinbeck volleyball team after Tuesday's win over AGWSR, but it was nonetheless an emotional night for the Rebels.

The Class 1A opening-round game in Reinbeck was also the last home game of the season for a G-R team that has made a big turnaround from last season under first-year head coach Paula Kelley.

The Rebels won 25-13, 25-8, 25-21 to improve to 23-9 on the season. G-R will travel to Janesville next Monday at 7 p.m. to face the 1A No. 1 Wildcats.

"The seniors were emotional in the locker room because it was our last game here this season," Kelley said. "It's been a total 180. We all really appreciate the fans and we've been playing well at home, it feels great to get the win here."

Paige Eiffler led the Rebels with nine kills and was 10 of 10 at the service line with three aces. Saari Kuehl added eight kills with two blocks and Megan Swanson was 21 of 21 serving with three aces.

AGWSR started with a 5-1 lead in the first set, but G-R scored 11 unanswered points and didn't trail again until the opening moments of the third set.

"The passes were there, which meant the sets were there and it made our hits really good," Eiffler said. "Knowing that this is the last season for our seniors and we're going out there and doing well is an awesome feeling."

BCLUW 3, EAST MARSHALL 0: The Comets won 25-20, 25-19, 26-24, improving to 21-15 overall. BCLUW will play at Belle Plaine in a 2A Region 5 quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Monday.

Easton Swanson had team-high marks of 13 kills and 17 digs for the Comets and had two blocks with 12 of 12 serving. Madison Ubben added eight kills and 12 digs and Kaylee Goecke had 13 digs with 15-of-16 serving and an ace serve. Cate Nason distributed 27 assists to the BCLUW attack.

TOP-RANKED WOLVERINES WILL FACE CYCLONES: Class 2A No. 1 Dike-New Hartford (44-3) will play Denver in a 2A Region 7 quarterfinal in Dike at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Denver defeated Jesup in five sets to reach the quarterfinals. The Cyclones have an overall record of 16-17 this season.

SPARTANS TO FACE HUDSON: Class 2A No. 3 Grundy Center will begin the postseason against Hudson on Monday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in Grundy Center.

The Pirates were a state runner-up in 1A last season and are 17-15 overall this season. Hudson swept Aplington-Parkersburg, 3-0, to reach the 2A Region 5 quarterfinals.
