Reinbeck council passes 10 percent spending cut on law enforcement
The Reinbeck city council officially approved a 10 percent cut to its spending on county law enforcement protection during its regular meeting on Monday evening.
The council passed its budget, which includes the cut that will bring annual expenditures on the law enforcement contract down from around $120,000 to $108,000 and result in a reduction in required daytime monthly patrol hours from 100 to 67, according to Sheriff Rick Penning. The sheriff’s department had requested a 3 ½ percent annual increase from each community to cover costs and salaries.
