Ritchie Industries drops alleyway request

Ahead of a meeting during which the Conrad city council was expected to vote on a proposal to vacate an alleyway just east of the Ritchie Industries plant, company officials announced that they have dropped the request.

City Clerk Lori Stansberry told The Grundy Register that the matter would still be on the agenda for the upcoming council meeting on Thursday night because it was tabled last month, but the discussion is effectively over—at least for the time being. While the mural and trees planted in front of the old Friday’s building will stay where they are, land ownership will not be transferred.

Under the original proposal, Ritchie would have taken possession of the alleyway, and the city would have taken the land in front of Friday’s, which Ritchie currently owns.

“It may change at a later date, but for the purposes of what we’re doing right now, everything’s staying completely the same,” Stansberry said.
