Saak is named U.S. Presidential Scholar

GRUNDY CENTER – U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced Friday the selection of 161 outstanding American high school seniors to the 2017 Presidential Scholars. Among those students is Tiana Saak, a senior at Grundy Center High School.
Saak said she was beyond surprised to learn she had won the award.
“When I originally got the invitation to apply [for the Presidential Scholars program] it was at a very busy time for me and I almost didn’t even apply for it,” she said. “I was just flattered to be selected a candidate for it. But I figured if I got the opportunity, I’d better apply for it. When I found out I got selected, I couldn't believe it.”
The elite program is only available to one male student and one female student in each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, as well as 15 students chosen at-large, 20 U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts and 20 U.S. Presidential Scholars in Career and Technical Education.
