Schupbach to join NHSACA Hall of Fame

Visitors to Rick Schupbach's home may be astonished at the sheer number of plaques the long-time Grundy Center girls golf coach has on one of the walls in the lower level of his home.

Schupbach was at the helm for 14 state titles for the Lady Spartans in 26 years, and received a plaque as the head coach of each state title team.

But he said he'll always point people to another wall, with photos of each of his teams over the years, names and faces from which Schupbach can recall memory after memory.

"Those plaques mean nothing," Schupbach said. "I can tell you so many things about each one of those years and those girls and the memories that were created. That's the important wall."

Schupbach prepares to add another plaque to his wall as a member of the National High School Athletic Coaches Association after a ceremony this summer.

"Any award I receive is a tribute to my athletes over the years," Schupbach said, "and also great support from parents, the Grundy Center golf course and the community at large supporting our program."
