Several area break-ins reported

GRUNDY CENTER – In between the late hours of Tuesday night and the early hours of Wednesday morning, burglars managed to break into two area businesses and one church, making away with cash from at least one of the locations.
 
The Landmark Bistro and the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center and Spanky’s restaurant in Gladbrook each reported thefts sometime between the evening of Tuesday, September 5 and the morning of Wednesday, September 6.
 
Landmark owner Jill Krausman said the culprits broke a lock on the door of her restaurant and stole a cash box containing $300, but she added that nothing else aside from the door and the cash box was damaged or stolen during the break-in.
 
Around the same time that night, a similar incident was reported at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center.
 
Pastor Luther Thoresen told The Grundy Register there is no cash kept at the church, so the burglars didn’t take anything. They did, however, damage one of the doors.
 
This is the second time in two months that the ALC has been broken into: the first incident occurred between August 12 and August 13, though nothing was stolen during that attempt either.
 
A third business, Spanky’s restaurant in Gladbrook, experienced a break-in at roughly 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6.
 
The restaurant’s owner, Mandy Boldt, posted several photos from a security camera on Facebook showing two burglars who appear to be male leaving the premises. Boldt could not be reached for immediate comment.
 
According to Deputy Mike Wright of the Tama County Sheriff’s Department, an unspecified amount of money was stolen from Spanky's and the incident is still under investigation. It is currently unknown if the three break-ins are in any way connected to each other.
