During this season of giving, local students at Grundy Center Elementary teamed up to raise over $1,300 for the Soles4Souls charity, which supplies shoes to children in need across the country and the world.

Sherry Rizzuto, counselor at the Grundy Center Elementary School, says the fourth grade Spartan Sentate members decided to partner with the American Lutheran Church to raise money for the charity.

Students organized a “coin war” at the school, where each classroom brought in spare change from home. After doing this for seven days, the students raised a total of $1,335 for the charity.

“The students really got excited about the coin war,” Rizzuto said. “Every classroom went above and beyond expectations and we couldn’t be more thrilled about the kindness and generosity shown by students and their parents.”
