Supervisors agree to postpone courthouse celebration

At its regular meeting on Monday morning, the Grundy County Board of Supervisors agreed to delay the courthouse celebration, originally scheduled for June 24, due to a lack of progress on the new annex building.
           
The building is running behind schedule, and according to board members, the doors and paint job are currently inadequate. Ackley Paint and Glass has been hired to redo the job, which was originally contracted to a company from Waterloo.
           
Supervisor Mark Schildroth suggested moving the celebration, which had originally been arranged by KWWL account executive Debbie Reynolds, back to September, and no hard date was set. No official action was taken, but the supervisors informally agreed to hold off on the festivities.
           
The board voted unanimously voted to extend its contract with AHTS Architects until July 31 at no extra cost, and it was reported that King Construction of Iowa Falls, the primary contractor on the annex, hasn’t worked on the project in at least three weeks.
           
“Do we need to have one of those come to Jesus meetings with King?” Supervisor Jim Ross asked.
