The Grundy County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a leasing agreement for the new communications tower that will bring AT&T cell phone service to Grundy Center for the first time.

Supervisor Barb Smith shared the frustrations she often heard from guests at the Americinn Hotel on the west edge of town who couldn’t get service and expressed excitement about the change.

“It’s a big deal,” she said.

The lease will bring in $1,400 a month for the county and will be arranged with Cover 2 LLC of Monona, Iowa.

The board accepted a $500 bid from Jim Neessen for the old county garage at 703 8th Street, and the supervisors approved an Aureon utility permit and the 2018 weed commissioner’s report later in the meeting.
