Supervisors approve hire at Buck Grove shop

During Monday morning’s regular meeting, the Grundy County Board of Supervisors approved an internal promotion for Josh Cordes, who will take over as the Buck Grove patrolman and replace Ivan Groeneveld as he retires after 37 years of service.

Cordes has been working out of the Conrad shop and plans to commute to the Buck Grove shop, which is located just outside of Wellsburg. County Engineer Gary Mauer plans to advertise for the Conrad job if none of his other current employees sign up for it.

Mauer reported that due to record snowfall, the secondary roads department went over its snow and ice removal budget by about $100,000. After the board approved a budget amendment to cover the difference, he noted that the carryover balance is now down to $223,000, a figure Mauer called “dangerously low.”
