The Grundy County Board of Supervisors approved the vacation of a sparsely traveled stretch of 280th Street along the Tama County line and heard budget requests from a handful of department heads during Monday morning’s regular meeting.

The board held a joint public hearing with the Tama County Board of Supervisors and closed it after brief remarks from the neighboring landowners and Crystal Huisman of GNB in favor of vacating the road.

“We feel that it would benefit (the landowners) to have that additional acre for farming,” Huisman said.

Both boards eventually voted unanimously to approve the move.

Six county department heads in all—attorney Erika Allen, treasurer Brenda Noteboom, sheriff Rick Penning, recorder Travis Case, custodian Mark Jungling and social services director Todd Rickert—came before the board to discuss their budgets for the coming fiscal year, and none proposed any major changes.
