Supervisors hear first round of 2019 budget requests

During its first regularly scheduled Monday morning meeting of 2019, the Grundy County Board of Supervisors heard a host of budget requests from various departments.

County Treasurer Brenda Noteboom, Sheriff Rick Penning, Recorder Travis Case, Veterans Affairs Director Janetta Miller-Buck and IT/GIS leaders Don Kampman and Jesse Huisman all spoke before the board, and none requested major changes in their operating budgets.

Noteboom reported that her annual request is down slightly to around $130,000, and her office brings in millions through registrations, driver’s licenses and use taxes each year. In 2018, the office broke records for licenses, and after her presentation, Noteboom, who was recently re-elected, received a 20-year service award and reflected on her office’s accomplishments over two decades while remaining fiscally strong.

“We’ve balanced every penny,” she said.
