Festivalgoers in the area should make Union their destination this weekend as the popular Tar Heel Days celebration is back for another go-round.

The fun starts on Friday with annual Buster Nyce Memorial Tournament and Nite Golf at the South Hardin Recreation Area, and the fire department will hold a free will donation supper beginning at 5:00 p.m. The ever-popular Heart of Iowa 5k run/walk will begin at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, and a tractor ride will commence at 8:00. At 10:30, Little Miss and Mr. Union/Whitten will be crowned, and the parade will begin at 11.

A lunch will follow the parade, and other events throughout the day include the car and tractor display, Union heritage, free kiddie train rides, kids tractor pull, an auction, bingo, water fights, the Ken Newby BBQ cook-off, a supper served by Chef John Benson in the BBQ area, a bounce house and for the second straight year, a musical performance by Triple Threat, the same band that played at Black Dirt Days in Conrad earlier this summer.
