Third-quarter burst powers Grundy Center boys

LE GRAND – Dexter Whitehill scored 18 points as Grundy Center boys basketball distanced themselves from East Marshall in the second half of a 47-28 win at East Marshall High School on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Whitehill made 7-of-15 shots and added four rebounds. Jalen Kirkpatrick scored 10 points with five rebounds and four assists; Brayden Sawyer chipped in nine points and five rebounds.

The Spartans led 21-15 at halftime, then outscored the Mustangs 18-5 in the third quarter.

DENVER 70, DIKE-NEW HARTFORD 59: The Cyclones came back from a 30-28 halftime deficit to win last Tuesday’s meeting in Dike. Brewer Eiklenborg scored 19 points with 14 rebounds, but Denver drilled 15 3-pointers, with Mitchell DeVries sinking seven of them toward his game-high 26 points.

Denver 70, D-NH 59. D-NH scoring: Brewer Eiklenborg 19, Jacob Stockdale 13, Braxten Johnson 7, Devon Kollasch 5, Colin Meester 5, Jerek Hall 5, Nathan Graves 3, Benton Bixby 2.

UNION 72, AGWSR 51: The Cougars couldn’t keep pace in this NICL crossover at La Porte City on Jan. 18.

Gabe Nederhoff scored 21 points to lead AGWSR, including five 3-pointers. Bradly Roder and Darren Veld added 10 points each; Roder contributed seven rebounds and four assists as well.
