Three-car accident reported on Highway 14

A major collision on Highway 14 near That Place Steakhouse just west of Conrad resulted in substantial damages and injuries for the parties involved on Wednesday morning.

According to Grundy County Sheriff’s Deputy BJ Jorgenson, who was on the scene, 48-year-old Corey Oltrogge of Eldora, driving a white Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, rear-ended a 2014 Ford Fusion driven by 24-year-old Jaymee Mann, also of Eldora, that appeared to be totaled after the accident (damage was later estimated at $10,000), and it in turn hit another vehicle, a 2015 Acura driven by Chad Wagner of Grundy Center, from behind—a chain reaction of sorts. Oltrogge was taken by ambulance to the Unitypoint Hospital in Marshalltown for treatment of upper torso injuries, and Mann, whose injuries were not specified, traveled in a personal vehicle to the same facility. Still, Jorgenson contended, it could’ve been much worse.

“They were lucky,” he said.

Beaman and Conrad firefighters and members of the Beaman-Conrad Emergency Response Team (BCERTs) directed traffic for over an hour while Jorgenson and Chief Deputy Tim Wolthoff investigated, and employees of Dave’s Crane and Wrecker showed up to transport the Fusion. Foggy conditions and limited visibility are the likely causes of the collision.
