GRUNDY CENTER - Christmas cheer was in the air on Saturday, as the community came together to celebrate Main Street Mingle in downtown Grundy Center.
Community members enjoyed Christmas shopping at downtown businesses, admiring the Christmas displays in the window fronts, watching a free Christmas movie matinee, taking a trolley ride, meeting with Santa, having story time and treats with Mrs. Claus, and much more.
The event, which was sponsored by Main Street Grundy Center and the Grundy Center Chamber of Commerce, was a holiday hit, the group says.
“This holiday event is always a Grundy Center favorite,” says Lisa Bienfang, MSGC director. “Everything was a hit and the weather really helped people stay downtown that night.”
Bienfang says the popular activities of the night always include visiting Santa and the Horse Drawn Trolley Ride. A few new additions to the event this year include: the Jingle Jog 5K, Live Music at Natural Grind, the Downtown Lighting Ceremony, and a different way to showcase the Festival of Trees by having displays inside businesses.
The group added that, with it being Small Business Saturday, the chance to do some Christmas shopping helped keep people local.
“Shopping local is so important, especially this time of year when people are spending a lot of money [on Christmas gifts],” Bienfang said. “Why not make sure it goes back into the community?”
