Two injured in crash near New Hartford

A Parkersburg man was seriously injured after colliding with the driver of a straight truck on Highway 57 two miles south of New Hartford on Tuesday morning.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Andrew Matson, who was southbound on the two-lane road at about 7:40 a.m. and turned at the curve just south of the Butler-Grundy County line, became trapped in his vehicle after he and 57-year-old Dennis Miller of Janesville, who was westbound going straight toward T-55, hit each other in the eastbound lane of Highway 57.

After he was extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life, Matson was transported to Allen Hospital in Waterloo for a broken arm and a possible leg injury, and Miller went to a local doctor for minor injuries.

Sheriff Rick Penning told The Grundy Register that both vehicles are believed to be totaled and added that because the crops in the adjacent fields were not yet tall enough to obstruct vision, he is unsure of how the drivers failed to see each other.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the accident, and the New Hartford Fire and Ambulance, Sartori paramedics and the Cedar Falls Fire Department all assisted on the scene.
