Verdicts reached in police assault cases

Two men pled guilty to assaulting Grundy County law enforcement officials during unrelated incidents in district court last week.
           
Last Monday, Shane Michael Pabst of Parkersburg pled guilty to a Class D felony stemming from a June 10 incident in which he became combative toward Grundy County Deputy Kirk Dolleslager at a Wellsburg residence and head butted the officer on the way to a squad car. Dolleslager had responded to a complaint of loud noises at 403 Wilson Street and originally arrested Pabst for Disorderly Conduct, a simple misdemeanor.
           
Pabst received a five-year suspended prison sentence concurrent with a public intoxication and assault case in Butler County, where he was found guilty in December of 2016. He also received a $750 suspended fine and will be required to submit a DNA sample and undergo two to five years of probation in a continuum program. He had previously pled guilty to felony Assault in Hardin County in 2012 and boasted a lengthy list of prior convictions, including third offense Public Intoxication in Grundy County in 2015 and three subsequent probation violations.
           
And on Friday, 29-year-old Chase Penfold of Osage pled guilty to similar charges, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations—Bodily Injury and Public Intoxication Third or Subsequent Offense, both aggravated misdemeanors. According to a police report, Penfold was attending a wedding reception at the Old Fifty-Six just west of Grundy Center on August 19 when he became drunk and disorderly.
